Stop At: Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong China

In the morning, meet your guide and small group at Sham Shui Po MTR Station, located in one of Hong Kong's most intriguing neighborhoods. This old Kowloon district offers an abundance of popular spots for any foodie interested in trying out Hong Kong's beloved cuisine. Follow your guide on foot down a food trail off the beaten path to six tasting locations – local eateries and specialty shops – for a taste of both sweet and savory classics. (Please note: All food venues are subject to change.)
Start your walking tour with a stop at Hong Kong Style Café (Cha Chang Teng) for a typical Hong Kong breakfast. Then, head to a soy specialty store and sip some of the freshest soymilk as you learn about the three different soy products sold at the shop. Afterward, follow your guide to a Chinese pudding store for a taste of delicious sweet pudding made the traditional way at this sixty-year-old establishment.
Next, see how the Braised Goose Restaurant’s owner and chef adapts traditional Chiu Chow fare for Hong Kong tastes at this hidden gem. After a savory sampling, your palette will be ready for two types of freshly baked cookies at a legendary Kowloon bakery. Finally, your guide will take you to Oodles of Noodles Restaurant, an award-winning family-run restaurant that serves fresh noodles made by hand daily. Savor egg noodles smothered with a special topping -- it's like nothing you’ve ever tasted before!
Between tastings, learn about Kowloon’s culture and history while your knowledgeable and entertaining guide points out iconic landmarks. As you stroll through Sham Shui Po, watch the neighborhood come to life and discover how it has changed over the past few decades. You’ll discover cultural remnants of Hong Kong’s past and experience modern life in this vibrant working-class community that escaped much recent urban redevelopment.
By the time you’ve eaten enough food for brunch, you’ll feel like a local with new knowledge of Hong Kong’s culinary culture! At the end of your tour, your guide will help you with directions to get back to the starting location or point you to the nearest MTR station.

I went on this tour just over a week ago. The tour guide was Jamie. It was a fabulous way to spend a morning. Jamie provided lots of interesting information about the area and the food. The food tastings were great. I got to taste all sorts of food that I wouldn't have otherwise tasted and to eat in places I wouldn't have had the courage or language skills to go into myself. I highly recommend this tour.

Nice to get to know the area

We ate amazing food on this tour. Our guide not only took us to good places to eat but pointed out many interesting things along the way.

  • Jayne B (May 2017)

The tour was excellent. The tour guide Carrie was obviously very experienced and knowledgeable about the Sham Shui Po area. We chose this tour as it was not the usual areas that we would be going to anyway - and the tour knows the best food places to go and try something different. I would highly recommend this tour as a good way to see a more traditional area of Hong Kong that still sells all the traditional foods. My favourite foods were the rice rolls and the enormous pineapple bun to start. When we go back to Hong Kong we will definitely consider doing another Hong Kong Foodie tour if time allows.

  • Peter B (April 2017)

This is a great tour with a wonderful and friendly tour guide - Carrie. From the first moment of the tour Carrie provided local information , water, maps and details of the places we would be visiting. The tour was more than a food tasting tour and provided insight into modern and historical Kowloon and Hong Kong. The restaurants visited were long time family businesses with pride in the wonderful food they prepared and served. The food we tasted was delicious and provided a variety of meals eaten by the Hong Kong population. We enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it.

  • alefor (March 2017)

WONDERFUL TOUR!!!! We walked quite a bit, but that was no surprise from the info provided up front. Had a detailed view of one area in Hong Kong. Had a great time with Yammy, who is extremely knowledgable and personable. She took us not only to 6 great eateries, but provided a wealth of interesting tidbits and showed us some other places along the way. Definitely recommend this most highly to anyone, it's not just for the food but for the whole experience.

The tour was amazing. It's wonderful to see pandas in their natural habitat. The animals are so cute and playful compare to pandas in zoos. The guide is very knowledgeable! She even showed us a place to eat after tour was over where locals eat.

  • Simon P (January 2017)

I highly recommend this tour as Yammy made it a really interesting experience. you sample the foods the locals eat every day which after living in China off and on for 16 years I have not seen before. A great way to immerse into the culture. Yammy is a natural, very good

  • Susan M (May 2016)

Loved it. Yammy was great, and the spots picked provided a good variety of food. We also learned a lot about the area and culture. Lots of questions from the group and Yammy did a great job handling them and also keeping us on track. Pineapple buns and rice rolls were my personal favorite. I also like that we got a brochure with the addresses and foods listed - good for finding the places again in the future.

  • Joanne W (March 2016)

  • James F D (April 2014)

We had a fabulous time on this tour, tasting food that we had never tried, or in some cases, seen before. Our guide was excellent, ensuring that we arrived at certain places just as they were opening or bringing out a new batch, ensuring that we experienced the tastings at their freshest. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.

  • Gilbert M (November 2013)

Fantastic tour not only for the food but the cultural information obtained from the guide was terrific. Thoroughly enjoyed walking around seeing another area and a view of life in Hong Kong.
